Philosophy
At Sage & Sunflower, I believe that infants and children learn about the world around them through free-play and daily interactions with peers, parents and caregivers. Environment is truly important in early childhood development. Having a safe, clean and nurturing space allows days filled with fun, learning and love. These are essential elements in helping little ones grow. Each day is aimed towards strengthening development but also flexible enough to consider each child’s individual needs. Each child needs to discover the world on their terms and follow their own instincts and interests. I strive to provide a place that gives children everything they need and more to learn, grow and be happy.
Our Program
Our program is designed to meet each child’s individual needs, and we prefer to keep the ratio of enrollment low to ensure this objective is met. Each day has a rotation of unique activities provided in a creative space to stimulate all areas of growth. We follow Reggio-Emilia teachings. This approach is intended to adapt to the children in the room- it’s about them, their specific families and their communities, not a structured model. I enjoy using Reggio-Emilia approaches in my childcare and preschool curriculum because it truly lets the kids discover what they wish to learn about, and I tailor our weeks based off of them!
